TIPS FOR CROSSBOW SHOOTING
The crossbows of today are not only accurate and fast but they are powerful too. When you buy crossbows, you need to get the most from it so its important that you understand how to set one up for hunting as well as how to shoot it.
1. Purchase the Best Crossbow Your Budget Will Allow- While there is a huge difference between the cheapest crossbow and the top notch crossbow, you don’t want the cheapest model on the market. It will not be reliable or accurate nor will it be built as well as others. Remember, you get what you pay for. You can get packages which include everything you need for around $1,000. The crossbow kit will include the crossbow, cocking device, some arrows with points, quiver and a scope sight. If you just want the crossbow alone, you will pay between $300 for the cheapest model to $1,000 for the top of the line crossbow.
2. Use Quality Arrows and Broadheads- Using cheap arrows means that you will hardly ever hit your target precisely. The majority of companies that make crossbows will sell arrows. You want to choose arrows that are designed with a nock specifically for crossbows and not compound bows. You also want to be sure that the arrows are the right length as well as being made with the correct fletches. Try and get carbon or aluminum arrows since they are the most durable.
The broadheads should have very sharp blades and they should also fly in a straight line in addition to having a long track record that is successful. The ones that are mostly used for hunting are 100 grains but 125 grains will also suffice.
3. Always Use a Rangefinder- A rangefinder will provide you the accurate distance from you to your target with just one click of a button. Modern rangefinders have a laser to give you the most accurate distance measurements. These devices are priced between $250 to $400 and they are a worthy investment.
